A choose-your-own-adventure art tour mobile app focused on teaching adult museum visitors how to talk about art.

Role
Research, content creation, design, prototype development

Audience
Adult museum visitors in their 20s and 30s

Goal
Empower visitors with the vocabulary to articulate what they see and appreciate about a work of art. Create a safe, comfortable learning space by breaking down the perception of the museum as a formal space.

This app caters to complete art novices and seasoned aficionados. Each visitor chooses their next steps: cover the basics or dive into a full formal analysis of the artwork in front of them. It also serves various levels of commitment, providing quick takeaways—“phrases to impress your friends”—as well as in-depth lessons.

Breaking down the formality of the museum space

My research uncovered that often visitors feel intimidated by the museum space and can feel “out of their element.” This app aims to create a safe, friendly space for visitors to learn by using playful, cheeky language. The app’s tone is key to its success—breaking down the formality of the museum space and making their experience familiar and fun.
